Privacy policy
The short version: the tools run in your browser, we never ask about your child, and the only thing we store is an email address if you request a PDF.
What we collect
- Your first name and email address, only if you request a PDF
- Which PDF you asked for
- Standard server logs kept for security
- Cookieless page-view counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics)
- Which tools you used — stored in your browser, not sent to us
What we never collect
- Anything about your child — name, diagnosis, school or district
- Text you paste into the goal checker
- Uploaded documents. There is nowhere on this site to upload one
The goal checker runs in your browser
The IEP goal checker is written entirely in the code of this page. When you paste a goal and press check, the analysis happens on your own device. The text is never transmitted to a server, never stored, and never seen by us or anyone else.
You can verify this yourself: load the page, disconnect from the internet, and the checker will still work.
Your email address
If you ask for one of the printable PDF guides, we collect your first name and email address in order to send you that file. We also record which guide you requested, so we know which resources parents find useful.
We use that address to send the PDF you asked for and occasional emails about IEP preparation resources. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from all of them.
We do not sell, rent, trade or share your email address. It is not passed to advertisers, data brokers, schools or districts.
What we never ask about
This is deliberate rather than incidental. There is no field anywhere on this site asking for a child's name, age, diagnosis, eligibility category, school or district. We do not ask, so we cannot store it, and it cannot be exposed if something goes wrong.
The tools were built to be useful before you have to trust anyone with anything.
Cookies and analytics
This site sets no cookies at all. It does not use advertising cookies, does not run cross-site tracking, and does not build a profile of you.
We measure how many people visit using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which was chosen specifically because it is cookieless. It records page views, referring sites and general country, and it does not fingerprint your device or follow you to other websites. We can see that a page was viewed. We cannot see who viewed it.
Our web host also keeps standard server access logs — the kind every web server keeps — containing IP addresses and requested pages, retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
Fonts and a stylesheet library are loaded from third-party content delivery networks, which necessarily receive the request. We do not send them any information about you.
What your browser remembers
To make the site more useful on a second visit, your browser keeps a short note of which free tools you have used — for example, that you opened the goal checker, or which state you selected. If you come back, that lets the site say something relevant instead of greeting you as a stranger.
This never leaves your device while you are anonymous. It is stored by your own browser, we cannot read it, and no server receives it. It contains no text you pasted and nothing about your child.
If you later choose to request a PDF, that summary is sent along with your email address, so we know which resources were useful to you. That is the only moment it is transmitted, and it only happens because you asked for something.
Clear what this browser remembers
One click. It removes the note entirely. The tools keep working exactly as before.
How your information is stored
Email addresses are held with our email service provider under their standard security arrangements. Access is limited to the founder. We keep addresses until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe using the link in any email, at any time.
- Ask for deletion by emailing hello@nestiep.com. We will remove your address and confirm when it is done.
- Ask what we hold about you, and we will tell you.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional statutory rights over your personal data. We will honour any such request regardless of jurisdiction.
Children
These tools are directed at parents, guardians and adult professionals, not at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with an email address, contact us and we will delete it.
Not legal advice
NestIEP provides general information about the special education process. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for a special education advocate, an attorney, or your child's IEP team. Nothing on this site should be read as a statement about whether any school or district has met its legal obligations.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change affects how we use email addresses already collected, we will say so by email before it takes effect.
